How to Reach Your Goals with Less Effort
Whether you set New Year’s Resolutions or not, chances are that you have at least ONE goal you want to achieve.
If you’re like most folks, you probably have quite a few.
One of the objectives I have for this blog is to help you achieve as many of your goals as possible, and to do so with the least amount of effort possible.
One of the most common misconceptions around goal setting is that it takes willpower, and that you have to force yourself to do things you probably don’t want to do.
Here’s where you can eliminate a LOT of wasted effort.
Let’s say that one of your goals is to lose some weight.
Sure, you could try to use willpower to avoid all of the foods you know contribute to an unhealthy weight and shift your diet to include healthier alternatives.
Or you could shift your inner state so that you truly PREFER the healthier foods.
Which do you think is easier, eating what you WANT to eat, or forcing yourself to choke down the low-calorie stuff?
Try this. It only takes a minute or two.
Close your eyes, and remember the last time you truly enjoyed a good meal.
See the food on your plate. Imagine putting a morsel into your mouth. Imagine yourself chewing it. Taste the exquisite flavor on your tongue. Feel it filling your belly.
Allow yourself to get lost in the experience.
Didn’t that feel good?
(HINT: The better you get at visualizing, the more enjoyment you get from this exercise.)
And absolutely no calories have to be counted. 😉
Your imagination is a powerful ally when it comes to reaching your goals.
If you wanted to extend this experience, you could imagine yourself getting just as much pleasure from eating those healthy foods you used to avoid.
You could also imagine yourself getting intense pleasure from exercising and burning off the unnecessary layers of “stored energy” called ‘fat’.
Do this once a day, and pretty soon your body will “somehow” just look better, and you’ll feel so much more alive.
Whatever your goal is, you can use this simple exercise to imagine yourself getting incredible pleasure from any task that has to be done to reach your goal.
Do you want to be a more confident, outgoing person? Do you want to get more work done so you can get promoted?
Or do you want to finally get past some negative experience from your past and be a happier, more positive person?
It’s all possible with the help of your imagination.
